Job Description

This individual shall have Application Developer responsibilities of overseeing the evaluation, design, and development of enterprise class applications. The individual will work on the development of standards, methodologies, and guidelines pertaining to applications development including, but not limited to, application design, configuration management, design patterns, deployment procedures, data integrity, capacity planning, and security. Candidate will collaborate with enterprise and solution architects as well as the business analysts to analyze requirements to develop enterprise class applications. Other primary responsibilities of the position includes

  • Work collaboratively with architecture and solutions teams to develop high-level and detailed application design and provide recommendations on solutions

  • Work closely with Business Analysts and users to understand requirements and develop new modules

  • Follow Agile development methodologies, where appropriate, in software development process

  • Define development strategies to ensure the appropriate controls are in place to enable the rapid application development.

  • Follow DevOps practice to support continuous integration.

  • Manage software development projects from design, coding, testing, documentation and delivery.

  • Perform data discoveries to understand data formats, source systems, file sizes, etc. This will include engaging with internal and external business partners in the discovery process.

  • Provide technical expertise in the development of design and functional specifications.

  • Support self-service analytics initiative.

  • Implement standards in place to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security and performance.

  • Keep abreast of new technologies and products to support NYPA strategic initiatives.

  • Responsible for preparing documentation and coordinating in support of the change control process and internal governance meetings throughout the project life cycle

Required Skills

  • Experience in design, development and maintenance of enterprise applications

  • Object-oriented and other programming languages, web/internet technologies, frameworks and application development tools -- e.g. C#, Java, Python, R, Tableau, Apache, JavaScript, XML, IIS, Visual Studio

  • Understanding of Hardware, Operating Systems, Software, and systems maintenance that involve software patching and upgrade

  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and supporting high-performing applications.

  • Understanding of REST Services and APIs.

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools.

  • Experience with relational and Not Only SQL (NoSQL) databases

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to liaise with various teams in the organization.

  • Must have exceptional team attitude and the ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast paced, team oriented, agile environment

  • Ability to orchestrate meeting with customers and upper management

  • Define problem areas, as well as develop and recommend effective courses of action.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT, or related field.

  • Minimum 6 years quality experience (or a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience for non-degree holders) including at least 5 years in an applications development and support environment.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Python, ASP.Net, C#, Java Script

  • Able to score at least 65% on the HackerRank pre-certification

  • Experience in Tableau reporting

  • Experience in working with Cloud based applications

  • Experience with ETL and/or other Big Data processes will be a plus

  • Strong understanding of Software development methodologies, Design Patterns, Application Security, databases (Relational and NoSQL)

  • Experience with Web Service technologies and REST services

  • Team Foundation Server experience for both source control and software development methodologies is required

  • Excellent debugging and optimization skills

  • Person must be able to travel for meetings and project coordination.
