GE Renewable Energy’s Wind Energy Internship Program is for eligible students enrolled in a Wind / Renewable Energy Technology field. This paid 10 - 12 consecutive weeks internship is designed to enhance a candidate’s academic experience by providing candidates with hands-on experience and the core roles and responsibilities of a Wind Field Technician.
The Wind Energy Intern, depending on the GE site, may be involved in:
Learning the operations, maintenance, and repair of wind turbine generators
Shadowing qualified wind technicians and Quality / EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) coordinators
Assisting record keeping and data management
Learning how to troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed turbines
Helping in all areas of site operations as directed by manager
Complete trainings to include, but is not limited to: First Aid/CPR/AED OSHA 10 or 30 NFPA 70E GE EHS policy courses 10-Hour OSHA training
Complete the following: GE Site Orientation Climb Test and Tower Rescue Training Basic Wind Turbine Fundamentals
- Student currently enrolled in an academic program and pursuing an Associate's Degree or Certification in a Wind Energy and/or Renewable Energy field OR similar experience
Ability and willingness to possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Ability and willingness to handle repetitive weight at a minimum of 50 lbs
Ability and willingness to climb towers up to 300 feet
Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
Ability and willingness to work in a range of environments to include but not limited to industrial facilities, manufacturing facilities, and power industry facilities
Good interpersonal skills, initiative, and high self-confidence
Ability to write reports, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
Electrical / mechanical background
Wind turbine experience
Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulations
Attention to detail and the ability to work in a team environment
