DNV GL Renewables Energy Assistant Analyst (Student Placement) in Bristol, United Kingdom
The primary focus of this role is to gain experience within the Renewable Energy Analytics Department of our world-leading renewable energy consultancy business. You will undertake wind resource assessments and site meteorological conditions work for both onshore and offshore wind farms at the pre-construction and post-construction stage. This will involve analysis of high resolution meteorological data, assessment of SCADA and other wind farm data and writing high quality reports for clients to enable them to understand the expected energy output of their projects and also optimise the performance of a wind farm. The role will be based in Bristol or Glasgow and primarily focused on the UK&I, Nordic&Baltic and Middle East and Africa markets.
Undertake pre or post-construction energy production assessments which include the following:
wind data or turbine data processing and quality checking
wind flow and wake modelling
review of energy losses
statistical analysis and produce a report
Undertake site conditions assessments which include elements of the above but also a review of:
extreme wind speed
ambient and wake induced turbulence intensity
Produce detailed reports which review the feasibility of sites for development which may include:
site meteorological measurements
shadow flicker assessments
visual impact assessments
Monitoring the performance of operating wind farms for owners and lenders
Participate in R&D projects as and when required.
Any other duties as directed by line management
Studying for a degree in an mechanical engineering, meteorology, physics or mathematics field
Aptitude for statistical analysis of data.
An interest in and aptitude for programming and databases
Prediction of achieving a 2.1 degree classification or above
Good organisational skills and ability to work in a pressurised consultancy environment to deliver high quality work
The ability to write clear and accurate reports in English
Previous experience of analysing and interpreting large data sets, such as SCADA data
Knowledge of the wind energy industry and an interest in renewable energy
Previous work or other experience that demonstrates the required skills
Good communication skills
Willingness to develop and enjoy taking on challenges and responsibilities
A strong interest in gaining valuable experience within the renewable energy sector.

The Renewable Energy Analytics Department provides consultancy services for pre-construction and operational renewables assets. Services include pre-construction energy assessments, site meteorological conditions assessments, online meteorological data management, measurement campaign specifications, operational long-term energy production assessments, performance monitoring, reliability analysis, day ahead forecasting and turbine inspections. The multi-disciplined team comprises engineers and analysts; all have a renewables technical background. Our customers are developers, banks, investment firms, utilities, energy traders and independent owners and operators.
