Energy Efficiency Field Auditor

Basic Function

Conduct complete and detailed residential customer energy audits and assessments to identify energy-efficiency improvement opportunities. Perform technical diagnostic tests and prepare energy-efficiency reports, graphs and charts for customer visits. Work with various energy-efficiency programs and present proposals to prospective customers.

Major Accountabilities

  • Conduct home energy audits in customer homes including: determination of insulation levels, visual check of age and condition of HVAC equipment and ducts, windows and weather-stripping.

  • Complete customer field visits with site walk-through assessments as well as collection of detailed information (utility data, equipment and building data, operational characteristics) and assist with the identification and evaluation of energy-efficiency measures, calculation of potential energy savings and audit report preparation.

  • Investigate, analyze and document energy conservation and utility cost reduction measures.

  • Install simple energy-saving measures such as smart thermostats.

  • Capture home data and track energy-saving measures installed.

  • Educate customers on various energy-efficiency programs. Encourage them to participate in specific energy-saving measures recommended from home energy audit. Explain incentives for energy-efficiency improvements.

Position Specifications:

Applicants must have technical knowledge and experience in residential construction or renovation, HVAC systems and sales. Building Performance Institute (BPI) Professional certification or the ability to gain certification immediately when hired is required. Ideal candidates will have strong communication, customer relations, sales, reporting and presentation skills. Ability to sell and close sales in the home. Excellent organizational and time management skills. The ability to learn and perform a variety of technical diagnostic tests. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 8. Experience with energy use analysis software. Availability to work some evenings and Saturdays. Travel within service territory required.
