Position Summary:

Under the direction of the BEC supervisor, this person will be required to safely and reliably operate, service, clean and protect all systems, heavy stationary equipment and all ancillary systems, components and hardware in a central power plant, producing and distributing steam and chill water. A special focus is placed on the chemical analysis and treatment of the water systems used in various components.

Additional general duty tasks may be assigned as requested by the Baylor Community we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Safely work from ladders and scaffolding

  2. Properly and safely lift items up to 70 pounds

  3. Understand and follow written and verbal instructions

  4. Performs operations, maintenance, repair, service, cleaning, and corrosion control work as assigned primarily within the BEC.

  5. Monitors and logs information from meters, gauges, equipment controls, valve conditions, switch settings and the energy management and control system in accordance with assigned procedures.

  6. Performs assigned chemical tests of various water sources, documents results, and makes adjustments in accordance with assigned procedures.

  7. Monitors Energy Management and Control System for alarms and initiates corrective actions in accordance with assigned procedures.

  8. Handles telephone communications tactfully and in accordance with assigned procedures so as to afford excellent customer service.

  9. Monitors entire plant facility including equipment and confined spaces for intrusions, defects and changed conditions and initiates corrective actions in accordance with assigned procedures.

  10. Routinely documents in plant operations logbook compliance with assigned procedures noting the details including the date and times.

  11. Works effectively with others including subcontract personnel to accomplish assigned work safely, reliably and cost effectively to maintain plant integrity.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists other departments in other duties and locations as assigned.

  2. Provide shift relief during the absence of other shift operators, such as vacations and sick leave.

  3. Performs operations, preventive maintenance, repair, service, cleaning, and corrosion control work as assigned primarily within the BEC

Qualifications:

Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate. Verifiable formal vocational education and training in operations and maintenance of boilers, chillers, turbines, generators and/or control systems is required. Minimum five (5) years training/job experience operating and maintaining most of the following is required: pumps, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, turbines, generators and control systems. Demonstrated successful supervision of work crews of up to five (5) employees is required. Must be proficient in establishing and enforcing safety procedures, in training others, in using hand tools including personal computers, and in communicating essential information both verbally and in writing.

  • Requires valid driver license.

  • Position requires that the individual have a high school degree or G.E.D. and have a diploma/certification in related field or two (2) years experience.

  • Position also requires that the individual have a minimum five (5) years experience in a related mechanic field.

  • Position requires that the individual is able to use multi-meters, ammeters, soldering, brazing, and electrical component wiring .
