Southern California Edison Principal Manager of Energy Contracts Origination in Rosemead, California
The Principal Manager of Energy Contracts Origination is responsible for leading the transactions of large, complex, long-term energy commodity, asset, and related products (e.g., physical, financial, emissions, and transmission). This position oversees all aspects of the deal-making process, including the solicitation process, due diligence, negotiations, selections, and closing.
This is a senior leadership position in Southern California Edison Company’s (SCE) Energy Procurement & Management (EPM) organization, which is responsible for developing SCE’s multi-billion dollar energy resource portfolio, with a particular emphasis on non-GHG emitting resources in furtherance of SCE’s clean energy commitment. Additionally, this position will be a key contributor to EPM’s goal to be widely recognized as a high performance organization.
Provides leadership and promotes the Company’s safety culture to facilitate a safe work environment.
Provides leadership and strategic direction in the assembly and management of a high performance origination team.Acts as the senior manager interface with other SCE organizations on complex energy solicitations.
Assesses Company requirements and market conditions, evaluates risk and identifies approaches to mitigate risk, and oversees the preparation and execution of large, complex energy product solicitations. Provides justification for and ensures alignment with the Company's objectives and regulatory requirements in leading EPM’s long-term contracting efforts.
Interfaces with and advises senior officers on energy procurement and contract origination strategies.Represents the Company to regulators, industry and the general public.Responds directly to media inquiries with subject matter expertise.
Develops and maintains strong, positive business relationships with energy market participants, including providers of demand-side management, distributed energy, renewables, and energy storage resources.
Manages resources and budget levels to meet strategic objectives and operational needs. Makes, recommends and/or approves employment decisions (e.g., hiring, promotion, appropriate pay, rewards/recognition, succession planning, and termination). Manages employee performance for both direct and/or matrixed reports. Establishes performance expectations and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies and procedures. Manages, trains and develops staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support. Demonstrates Company values through decisions and actions.
Five years of experience in energy markets or supporting energy regulatory proceedings.
Five years of experience managing, supervising or leading one or more organization, unit or major initiative, or equivalent experience providing leadership as a senior member of cross-functional teams.
Must have experience with contract negotiation, contract management, contract origination, or contract administration.
Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and negotiating skills to build consensus with stakeholders to develop and maintain partnerships with support organizations and senior management/executives
Juris Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Public Policy or Finance.
Experience negotiating and managing complex energy transactions in California.
Ten years of experience managing, supervising or leading one or more organization, unit or major initiative, or equivalent experience providing leadership as a senior member of cross-functional teams
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position. Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Background Investigation and/or Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA). Once hired, the candidate or new hire must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
