Southern California Edison CAISO Day Ahead Energy Scheduler (EOS1) in Rosemead, California

Position Overview:

This position resides in the Day Ahead Operations group within the Energy Procurement & Management organization which is contributing to SCE’s goal to become recognized by its industry as a high performance organization.

The Day Ahead Scheduler will be responsible for scheduling SCE’s dynamic portfolio of generation, intertie trades, Inter-SC trades, demand side resources, and forecasted load into the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) wholesale power market. This position performs the Scheduling Coordinator (SC) functions in the CAISO, and provides business and operational expertise in support of the administration, reporting, and settling of wholesale power transactions.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex, macro-driven spreadsheets and systems to generate energy bids and schedules.

  • Validate daily QF, VER and load forecasts.

  • Review daily trading transactions to ensure deals are accurately entered into SCE’s deal capture system.

  • Track and communicate all CAISO intertie ATCs prior to IFM close.

  • Verify submitted CAISO OMS outages are accurately reflected in the next-day resource portfolio plan.

  • Submit and verify energy bids and schedules into CAISO’s SIBR.

  • Create, adjust, and monitor e-tags as necessary for intertie transactions.

  • Dispatch generation and DR resources in accordance with CAISO IFM Energy and AS Awards.

  • Integrate resources into EPM bidding and scheduling tools.

  • Represent group at inter-departmental meetings regarding policies, procedures, and operational integration.

  • Support related functions as necessary, including Settlements, Compliance, and Information Technology.

  • Determine and implement process improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years with experience in finance, accounting or deregulated energy markets.

  • Proficient Excel spreadsheet skills (e.g. VBA and Pivot Tables).

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree

  • Understanding of the deregulated wholesale energy markets.

  • Familiarity of CAISO market systems such as SIBR, CMRI, and OMS.

  • Knowledge of WECC transmission topology.

  • Flexibility to work rotating 10 hour shifts 7/365 and overtime, as needed.

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to work in a fast environment and meet fixed daily deadlines.

  • Desire to deliver quality work products and results.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and pursues continuous improvement.

  • Ability to follow SCE Safety protocols and principles.

Comments:

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position. Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Background Investigation and/or Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA).
