Position Summary: The Global Marketing Manager for Energy Storage is a key global leadership role for the Lithium business. Responsibilities include product strategy and planning, end market applications management along with development and conception and executing strategies for profitable growth for Lithium’s product’s going into lithium ion batteries for energy storage. While this role is strategic in nature, the incumbent will have a deep understanding of the necessary tactical activities that are key business drivers and be able to train and guide other commercial staff in the problem solving and decision making. The Global Marketing Manager must possess a deep and complete understanding of external dynamics impacting the lithium ion battery market including global demand and capacity, market trends and the competitive landscape. Additionally, the Marketing manager leads activities to achieve desired target margins and drive key strategic growth and investment initiatives in regards to expansion, cost or quality improvement in conjunction with other functions of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Business Partnership:

  • Develop and execute short term (1-3 year) and long term (5-10 year) product strategy. The strategy must be ambitious, creative and built upon a solid foundation of market, technical and manufacturing information; utilize sales, competitive intelligence, market share, acquired consultant data and customer data, as well as other relevant information to develop the strategy.

  • Lead and manage FMC’s lithium ion battery end market product portfolio focusing on new applications, new products and aligning with industry trends to insure FMC growth.

  • Develops in-depth battery market expertise as drivers for business forecasting including correlation factors, alternative technologies, and demand drivers for the battery sector.

  • Develop optimal product mix strategy in both long and short term.

  • Determine global market pricing trends based on supply & demand, outside projections that lead to long term forecasting of industry and market growth.

  • Plays a leadership role in new product growth and line extension initiatives.

  • Develops business justification and financial support for market application and longer term development projects that are aligned with the global business strategy. Fulfill role of commercial lead for assigned projects.

  • Establishes and models lithium’s top end lithium ion battery markets to project long-term growth and market shifts which drive divisional strategies

  • Works with industry experts, consultants, trade organizations for executing strategic projects

  • Prepares materials for corporate reviews, assists investor relations, government relations, business development, and marketing communications function

  • Assists in evaluating business case for capacity expansion

  • Collaborates with operations and supply chain teams for improving customer centric focus and other metrics

  • Drives profit improvement initiatives including coordination of major process improvements at the plant level and/or cost reduction programs within other parts of the organization. Develops a strong grasp of the financial performance of the products

  • Identifies sustainability initiatives, and supports their implementation

Customer Partnerships

  • Work closely with the sales team to interact with key customers, interpret customer data, determine growth opportunities, and put into overall strategy for industry.

  • Understands customer segmentation, underlying customer buying behaviors, and support of customer centricity efforts to better understand what our customers expect and demand from a value added supplier.

Marketing Processes

  • Establish key marketing processes and standardization from contracting profiles, pricing metrics, monthly analysis and demonstration of full understanding of marketing trends within the lithium ion battery segment.

  • Create information sharing protocols with key stakeholders with frequency that identifies gaps and trends in the end markets.

Safety, Health and Environment

  • Promote a strong belief that all incidents are preventable and that no job is worth doing that would risk the health, safety, or welfare of the plant employees or community.

  • Promote SHE policies and practices through active participation and through interactions with all employees.

  • Support the Division’s Responsible Care initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possesses the communication and presentation skills to regularly interface with senior management across functional lines.

  • Ability to understand our current product applications, customers, competitors, product specifications and quality requirements.

  • Ability to understand Lithium’s manufacturing and distribution costs and the main levers to control them.

  • Necessary skills and knowledge to develop and drive our global product portfolio strategy in conjunction with other functions in the organization.

  • Ability to work closely with operations, logistics and sales to ensure revenue, margin and customer quality goals are met.

  • Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions through quantitative analysis

  • Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft CRM, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word; SAP

Internal: Sales, Marketing team, Applications Development, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Investor Relations, and Technology.

External: Customers, Distributors, Agents, Industry Experts, Consultants

  • BS degree in a technical field, chemistry, chemical engineering preferred with MBA strongly preferred.

  • Marketing and sales of technical products in the chemical industry, with at least 8 - 15 years’ exposure to the global aspects of the chemical industry.

  • Product management, supply chain and contract negotiations experience strongly preferred.

  • Marketing processes and standardization plus working knowledge of global networking experience a strong plus. Working knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations regarding business, anti-trust, and safety and health.

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability influencing, persuading and coordinating the global commercial strategies for lithium products (including long term demand and pricing forecasting).

  • Experience providing substantial inputs to the lithium market planning process and developing strategic alternatives for products and annual allocation strategies on a global scale.

  • Effective interacting with senior management both internally and in customers organizations. Translating highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of stakeholders.

  • Experience collaborating with best in class sales professionals in the lithium space on product pricing, placement and positioning strategies.

  • Demonstrated understanding of lithium customers, products, markets and industry. Developing Lithium’s capabilities to align with our global strategy.

  • Experience understanding the global value chains for all types of lithium products.

  • Lead and interpret competitors activities and their respective strategies into the lithium space.

  • Ability to model complex end market application supply chains where our Lithium is used and correlate back to FMC demand vision and strategy.
