As a senior analyst covering mid-size utilities, energy and commodity related sectors in our Fixed Income Research group, you will be assigned primary coverage for following a number of investment grade issuers which may also include issuers in multiple markets. Responsibilities include:
Evaluating issuer creditworthiness, assigning internal credit ratings, and making investment buy, sell, or hold recommendations supported by detailed, well-articulated analysis presented to portfolio managers, traders, senior management, and risk management. On an ongoing basis, you will provide frequent, organized, and well-articulated updates and investment recommendations. In addition, you will be asked to contribute to multiple group-wide projects in addition to coverage responsibilities.
Model and explain earnings, cash flow, and balance sheet projections/expectations.
Working across a large number of issuers across a variety of jurisdictions, understand, evaluate, and test bond covenants.
Proactively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining flexibility and a positive attitude.
Maintaining strong relationships with bankers, issuers, external counsel and other investors.
This position reports to the Managing Director in our Investment Grade Credit Research group and will be the secondary analyst for utilities. The Investment Grade Group is organized into three sector teams and consists of 13 Analysts, 3 senior portfolio managers, and 3 traders. The group is led by Head Portfolio Manager/Head of Investment Grade and is part of the broader Public Fixed Income Group at AIG Investments. You will work closely and constructively with multiple constituencies including portfolio managers, traders, analysts representing other asset classes, credit risk managers, legal counsel, rating agencies, and issuers.
The Ideal Candidate
An MBA and/or CFA are preferred.
Highly skilled in credit metric analysis, preferably across multiple corporate credit sectors including utilities, energy and commodity related sectors.
Advanced modeling skills and the ability to explain earnings, cash flow, and balance sheet projections/expectations.
Current knowledge of credit securities pricing and relative value, and able to demonstrate conviction in valuation views.
Knowledge of commonly used credit indices and understand total return and net investment income strategies, ideally within the context of insurance company fixed income investment portfolios.
Team oriented with ability to work independently.
