Our Melbourne CBD-based team is seeking a Commodity Analyst to work on the Global Research & Analytics team which serves our local and global clients.

This challenging and diverse role is ideally suited to a Degree qualified individual (Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) with 1-4 years of demonstrated experience working (or equivalent education) in a similar position within the energy, commodity, financial, or related industry. You will be a self-starter and skilled problem solver who is clearly passionate about both energy and forecasting. Your strength in analytics will be complimented by your ability to influence and drive decision making through communicating and connecting effectively with your stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following skills:

  • Keep current with key political and economic developments as they relate to global energy markets.

  • Form and communicate opinions on past, present, and future energy market movements both verbally and in writing with internal and external clients, colleagues, and senior management in a clear and concise manner.

  • Write global energy market research outlooks that are published with regular frequency.

  • Perform ad-hoc analyses & research within the energy markets, including timing studies, fundamental analysis, statistical analysis and technical analysis.

  • Utilize statistical software for in-depth analysis of fundamental data.

  • Develop econometric models for forecasting global energy. Must be able to evaluate models for errors, as well as evaluate output of the models.

To be successful in this role, you must possess the following skills and experience:

  • Keen interest in energy markets, policy, supply/demand, and implications on producers and end-users

  • 1-4 years’ experience with prior research experience or analytical modelling in the energy, commodity, financial, or related industry (or equivalent education).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or similar

  • Analytical self-starter

  • Quick, resourceful, and eager learner, with strong attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving skills focused on providing solutions

  • Ability to communicate complex analysis and ideas in a concise manner

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a timely manner

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher

  • Energy experience preferred, particularly Australia electricity or natural gas forecasting
