JOB REQUIREMENTS: 2979BR Following standard practices and procedures, performs routine data analysis in support of energy market activities such as gas trading, trade capture operations, fuel cost hedging, outage schedule maintenance, generation offer operations, fuel forecasting and variance analysis, demand forecasting, and gas scheduling/dispatch. Monitors market and/or operational data to be aware of changing market conditions. Gains a basic understanding of the business of a regulated gas and electric utility including details of fuel recovery rules in each applicable jurisdiction, Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market rules and processes, energy portfolios, and gas trading rules and processes. Performs after-the-fact review and variance analysis to identify additional market, cost saving, and forecasting improvement opportunities. Supports established operational processes by reviewing and documenting current processes and systems. May assist with improving and developing new forecasting tools and processes. Assists in preparing clear, audience-appropriate written explanations of forecast components, market conditions, operational issues and variance analysis. Scheduling of natural gas deliveries on interstate pipelines including some work on weekends and at night. Assists in conducting analysis and preparing information for back office and accounting groups to bill counterparties, create financial statements, and respond to information requests. Supports more experienced analysts in gathering information to respond to annual and supplement data requests or standard reports from regulatory agencies (e.g., state public service commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). Assists with internal and external training. May be required to cross-train and provide backup on any responsibility area listed in the position summary. May participate in special projects. Energy Market Analyst II This position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in business, marketing, engineering or related field and three years of related experience; in the absence of a degree seven years of related experience is required. Senior Market Analyst This position requires a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in business, marketing, engineering or related area and five years of technical and/or professional experience. In the absence of a degree nine years of related experience is required. Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management). Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and related analytical tools preferred. Strong knowledge of analytical methods and analysis preferred.
