United Nations Foundation Communications and Digital Producer (Contract), Energy and Climate in District Of Columbia

Note: This is a contract position, antitpated dates are August 1 2017 to December 31 2017.

The Communications and Digital Media Producer, Energy and Climate (Contract), facilitates the UN Foundation’s communications around climate change and energy, and updates all climate digital properties, including social media and websites.

The Communications and Digital Producer, Energy and Climate (Contract), will report to the Senior Director, Public Affairs, while also working closely with the Vice President of Energy, Climate, and the Environment.

  • Responsible for implementing the overall digital strategy for the Foundation’s climate communications, including report-outs on metrics and performance analysis.

  • Work with the Senior Director, Digital and Multimedia Strategy and the Vice President for Energy, Climate, and the Environment to identify key moments throughout the year for major communications and events strategy.

  • Make data-driven recommendations for content and digital media tools to increase engagement rates for web and social media.

  • Maintain digital and communications content creation for the Foundation’s climate priorities, including creation of multimedia, articles, and other written and designed content for web, email, social media, and more.

  • Serve as editor of Climasphere.org, with the latest climate news added to the site on a daily basis.

  • Monitor, analyze, and report on web, social media, and email KPIs and make recommendations to enhance traffic and supporter participation.

  • Work with the UN Foundation Public Affairs team and program staff to ensure content sharing and cross-promotion across the Foundation’s communication platforms.

  • Attend and cover live events in Washington, DC, and New York, NY, as applicable.

  • Minimum 3-4 years of writing and organizing internet-related projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or energy/environmental related field preferred.

  • Familiarity with climate and energy issues.

  • Experience maintaining and managing organizational social networking accounts in coordination with campaign online communications and strategy (Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram, etc.).

  • Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team to identify, explore and implement creative online and social media strategies; make recommendations for content and online communications tools.

  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations — team-oriented; problem solver; relationship-builder; and strong inter-personal skills.

  • Ability to multitask in a very fast-paced, often rapidly-changing environment.

  • Stress tolerance and resilience; sense of humor; highly organized; attention to detail; and ability to work under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities.

  • Multi-cultural experience and willingness to travel (at least 10%).

  • A demonstrated knowledge of global issues and the United Nations system, and an understanding of the UN Foundation mission, programs, strategy and goals.

  • Knowledge and prior use of HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, Microsoft Office.


  • Proficiency in CRM & CMS — Convio and Net Communities highly preferable.

  • Proficiency in the use of social media monitoring and analytics tools.

  • Prior legislative, campaign or policy experience.

  • Experience working with membership organizations or associations.

  • Familiarity with international issues and/or the UN system.

  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
