Lockheed Martin Technician Senior Specialist / Energy Storage / Cambridge, MA in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing a new class of flow battery for low-cost grid-scale energy storage. This is a full-time position for a technician to build and test flow battery prototypes, as well as to aid in the commercial scale-up and production introduction of a brand new technology. Duties may include fabrication of battery components, assembly and testing of prototypes, electromechanical fabrication of system components. We are looking for self-motivated candidates willing to learn. Hands-on experience assembling, fabricating, testing, and/or maintaining electromechanical devices of similar complexity is highly desired. The ability to troubleshoot and repair such devices is also highly desired.

Our Lockheed Martin AES site is located somewhat close to the Alewife Station which is a major MBTA transit hub with access to the Red Line with service to Boston and bus lines with service to surrounding neighborhoods and adjacent communities. Cape Cod is less than 90 minutes to the southeast. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are 2.5 hours to the north. Providence, RI is about 2 hours to the southwest. Montreal is about 5 hours to the northwest.

Basic Qualifications • Experience in the hands-on development of complex electromechanical devices. • Knowledge of basic mechanical fabrication techniques (esp. plastic pipe welding, assembly, general machining) • Knowledge of basic electrical fabrication techniques (esp. wiring, soldering)

Desired skills • Associates degree or equivalent experience (military service encouraged). • Relevant experience with electrochemical systems (batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers) • The desire and ability for hands-on prototyping and validation of new designs • Relevant experience with process equipment, such as piping systems, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, etc. • Relevant experience with peripheral equipment, such as load banks, power supplies, NI hardware, instrumentation, etc.
