Position Purpose:

Energy Systems Administrator I

This position supports power generation and critical business processes at Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) by assisting with the maintenance of complex computer systems used to control power generation and provide critical emissions, performance, and marketing data. This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of hardware, software, system documentation, and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all appropriate North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and procedures. This position carries a cell phone and will be on-call, as required. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Energy Systems Administrator II

This position supports power generation and critical business processes at Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) by maintaining complex computer systems used to control power generation and provide critical emissions, performance, and marketing data. This position is responsible for maintaining hardware, software, system documentation, and assisting other administrators with complex problems. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all appropriate North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and procedures. This position carries a cell phone and will be on-call, as required. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Energy Systems Administrator III

This position supports power generation and critical business processes at Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) by planning and overseeing the development and implementation of complex computer systems used to control power generation and provide critical emissions, performance, and marketing data. This position is responsible for establishing detailed hardware, software, and network design specifications, maintaining system documentation, and assisting other administrators with complex problems. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all appropriate North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and procedures. This position carries a cell phone and will be on-call, as required. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Qualifications:

Energy Systems Administrator I

To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have an understanding of server hardware, operating systems, scripting/programming, networking, database technologies, Linux/Unix, Windows server, and workstation operating systems. This is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in computer science, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited computer engineering or electrical engineering, or related field, and two years of related technical experience with demonstrated competency in the ability to handle basic systems administration tasks. The incumbent must possess the ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and must have excellent customer service skills. The ability to effectively solve problems is required. The incumbent must be proficient with Microsoft Office.

Energy Systems Administrator II

To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have an understanding of server hardware, operating systems, scripting/programming, networking, database technologies, Linux/Unix, Windows server, and workstation operating systems. This is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in computer science, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited computer engineering or electrical engineering, or related field, and four years of related technical experience with demonstrated competency in the ability to handle basic systems administration tasks. The incumbent must possess the ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and must have excellent customer service skills. The ability to effectively solve problems is required. The incumbent must be proficient with Microsoft Office.

Energy Systems Administrator III

To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have an advanced understanding of server hardware, operating systems, scripting/programming, networking, database technologies, Linux/Unix, Windows server, and workstation operating systems. This is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in computer science, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited computer engineering or electrical engineering, or related field, and eight years of related technical experience with demonstrated proficiency to handle complex systems administration tasks. Project management experience and experience with multiple communication protocols and applications, such as web servers, databases, and remote access applications is required. The incumbent must possess the ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and must have excellent customer service skills. The ability to effectively solve problems, mentor and provide direction to others, and organize and manage multiple projects is also required. The incumbent must be proficient with Microsoft Office.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent sitting, and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending/reaching, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position uses software and hardware tools to service computer equipment. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position spends over 50 percent of the day working at a desk. This position frequently works around chemicals, and occasionally in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, and confined areas, and at heights up to 25 feet. This position may be required to drive a motor vehicle and fly in a Cooperative or commercial aircraft. This position will provide after hours support for network and security issues on a rotating 24/7 (weekends, after-hours, and on-call as necessary) basis.
