Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a Hydrogen Energy Project Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.The Hydrogen Energy Systems (HES) engineering group is part of the Industrial Gases Americas Operation’s Customer Engineering team. The group provides project engineering, product engineering and technical support to the HES business area. The primary focus is designing and building hydrogen fuel stations for new applications that use hydrogen as a fuel. Projects are a combination of engineer-to-order systems that meet the developmental needs of our customers as well as product-based projects to provide low cost solutions as the technology matures. The HES Project Engineer is responsible for providing a broad range of technical support and project management for projects, customers, Operations and the HES business area. The role as the HES Project Engineer is to provide leadership to successfully deploy hydrogen fueling stations by demonstrating technical and work process knowledge and expertise. A high degree of team building, collaboration and influence is required. The position interfaces with the engineering team, HES Operations, Logistics, Product Management, Customer Services, the HES commercial team, vendors, and customers. Projects primarily involve automotive fueling stations, but the intent is also to support fueling of other equipment such as forklifts, aircraft, ships, etc. Several automakers, most notably Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda, are introducing mass-market hydrogen fuel cell cars. These automakers are bringing new technology to market to meet emissions reduction targets mandated by regulations worldwide. These vehicles will need a widespread network of 700 bar (10000 psig) hydrogen fueling stations for successful consumer acceptance. In addition to the hydrogen fueling stations, Air Products is also actively building the facilities required to produce, compress, and deliver the hydrogen required by these fuel stations. Air Products business plan is to generate revenue and profit by selling hydrogen fueling stations and by supplying hydrogen molecules to those stations for the long term. The automotive deployment, and its impact hydrogen sales, is scaling very rapidly. It is expected that hydrogen sales to this market will increase rapidly. Principal Accountabilities: Project manage activities to support our hydrogen fueling station customers, particularly automotive. Responsibilities include maintaining budget, managing the schedule, serving as the point of contact for the customer, and being responsible for the systems to meet the technical specificationsManagement of product development programs, technical and economic evaluations, cost and schedule improvements, work process improvements and bid/project team support by implementing hydrogen fuel station products to meet customer requirementsWork with commercial area to develop this business and understand how Air Products can serve the marketWork with various internal and external organizations to develop the work processes to meet the needs of this new marketParticipate in working with vendors to improve products and reduce costSupport other aspects of HES business including engineering activities in development of new hydrogen fueling needs to include air, naval and mining applications Role and Responsibilities: Maintaining budget, managing the schedule, serving as the point of contact for the customer, and being responsible for the systems to meet the technical specificationsProvide insight into the technical and project management challenges of developing a new businessWork with customers to resolve technical and commercial issues Directly supporting the business area – meeting with customers, preparing budgets and managing scope to maintain AP profitabilityManage HES product development programs on-budget and on-scheduleEquipment specification, P&ID and design developmentDevelop construction and modularization strategyDevelop global sourcing strategies Qualifications/Skills: Candidates should have a BS in Engineering with 5 years of experienceExperience in the following areas is highly preferred -- HYCO technology, Project Engineering, and Project Development Engineering Cross-functional engineering experience with a basic knowledge of project management and product engineering is preferredA passion and ability to think creatively, develop new concepts, and design completely new systems and technologies is requiredStrong technical skills and an interest to use them is important, along with solid interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work with and influence a wide range of external and internal stakeholdersThe successful candidate will provide strong leadership and project management skills to complete projects on-budget and on-scheduleAir Products (NYSE:APD) is a world-leading Industrial Gases company in operation for over 75 years.
