About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This individual will have supervisory responsibility for the energy settlements processes within Transmission Operations. The RTO Energy Transactions team is comprised of both technical and non-technical staff and is responsible for the transmission settlements function at FirstEnergy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Directing and leading the RTO Energy Transactions team to ensure accurate energy reporting to PJM and zonal load calculations.

  • Driving continuous improvement in processes, documentation, tools, applications, and data quality control to improve accuracy of energy accounting and meter/submission error detection.

  • Directing the development of value added reports and analytics to enhance the accuracy of zonal load data.

  • Owning, operating, and maintaining the PowerTracker energy settlements application.

  • Monitoring PJM stakeholder processes such as Market Settlements Subcommittee to ensure any changes to market design affecting Power Meter are accounted for in FirstEnergy energy settlements processes.

  • Ensuring the accuracy of and signing off on updates to the market model used in PJM operations. Working with PJM market participants, stakeholders and Electric Distribution Companies on requests for nodal settlements.

  • Working closely and collaborating with Transmission Operations, Regulated Settlements, FERC Wholesale & Connection Support, Meter Engineering, MV90, Power Billing, IT RTO, and other regional groups on matters impacting transmission settlements and/or metering issues.

  • Coordinating and supervising the daily activities of the energy settlements team within Transmission Operations:

  • Ensuring staff consistently reviews generation and tie-line values that determine zonal loads are correct.

  • Ensuring data submitted daily by staff and counter parties to the PJM eSuite application called Power Meter is correct.

  • Ensuring meter corrections are performed in a timely manner and submitted to PJM monthly.

  • Ensuring all data coming from the Energy Management System (EMS) and MV90 system is accurately interfacing with PowerTracker.

  • Working with Regulated Settlements on any out of period re-settlements affecting the Electric Distribution Companies.

  • As owner of PJM zonal load data, ensuring communication of such data is completed timely to groups using this data which include but are not limited to: Regulated Settlements, Communications and ED Management.

  • Maintaining and enhancing RTO Energy Transactions QlikView dashboards/reports.

  • Making decisions guided by policies, procedures, and business plan.

  • Maintaining a high level of safety commitment throughout day-to-day functions.

  • Understanding and scheduling work according to departmental budget.

  • Being accountable for the performance of the energy settlements team.

  • Setting priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinating work activities with other

  • supervisors and/or managers.

  • Executing the performance management process by providing feedback and coaching on an ongoing basis by discussing development opportunities, performance issues, and changes that are occurring.

  • Leading, educating, and directing others to improve team effectiveness and communicating

  • results/recommendations.

  • Working effectively with different parts of the organization; broadening, deepening, and maintaining relationships.

  • Identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving problems on projects and/or processes.

  • Ensuring business continuity through good succession planning processes.

  • Travel, as required.


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering Technology (BSET) required.

  • A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience.

  • Advanced degree is a plus.

  • Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Reliability First Corporation (RFC) standards and policies of the electric utility industry is preferred.

  • Knowledge of PJM and PJM's eSuite application is preferred.

  • Highly driven, self-motivated, and enthusiastic leader capable of communicating, motivating, and driving workforces toward positive change and improvement.

  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience in process/project development, planning/analysis, and performance reporting.

  • Exceptional relationship management, leadership, teamwork, and managerial skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to lead others in achieving goals for the benefit of the business unit and FirstEnergy.

  • Ability to make accurate decisions and demonstrate sound judgment.

  • Display a creative and entrepreneurial approach to analyzing situations and developing solutions.

  • Ability to both contribute to and execute an agreed upon strategy for driving improvement in an organization.

  • Experience with the real-time Energy Management System (EMS) and MV90 is preferred

  • Proficient with database query tools such as Toad Data Point or MS Access

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with QlikView is preferred.
